Our Story

As a trial attorney, Laurence Kahn encountered more and more people who were in urgent need of assistance, but could not afford the legal fees their situation required. To confront this need, Larry formed an organization dedicated to helping people address these crises while avoiding the intimidating costs of the court system. Over time, Larry came to realize that most of the situations his organization dealt with could actually be resolved through non-legal negotiations and advocacy.

As a result of this realization, in the spring of 2004, Larry founded Help Now! Advocacy in rural Oregon. As of 2020, Help Now! has successfully assisted over 8,500 individuals and families through a crisis.

The pandemic that swept across the nation and the world in 2020 sharply increased the need for the unique services that Help Now! provides. In order to meet this need, we are expanding beyond the original regional base of operations. The result is our newly launched, nationwide Now! Advocacy Hotline.
